Any #SlashTag recommendations for a couple that hasn’t seen many scary Halloween flicks? Jump scares just ain’t cool but I feel like I’m missing out on so much!
#slashtag STAGED. David Tennant and Michael Sheen playing themselves in lockdown right now. Very funny show, I could relate to Tennant trying to avoid home schooling! BBC One
Only one episode in, but Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird is worth a watch. It’s about John Brown who helped free slaves toward the end of the Civil War. It’s full of great performances and it’s got an interesting tone with a surprising amount of humor at times. #slashtag
@Chachzilla A month later and this show continues to surprise and delight. Seems to hit on a lot of themes Dave, Devindra and Jeff like to chew on. It doesn't seem to be on the cultural radar at all on film twitter. Is it hard to stream in the U.S. or something? #slashtag
One of the reasons I keep Twitter around is to recommend shows and movies to @davechensky@Devindra and @jeffcannata using the hashtag #SlashTag. Speaking of recommendations, I have some for things on Shutter.
@davechensky@Devindra@jeffcannata The Color Out of Space. A fantastic adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. Maybe the best Lovecraft adaptation. Captures the tone and spirit of the story beautifully while providing its own visual flair. #slashtag
@davechensky@Devindra@jeffcannata Last thing I’ll recommend from Shutter is Noroi: The Curse. It’s a found footage/mockumentary film from Japan and it is amazing. This film is found footage/mockumentary done right. It is just an amazing film #slashtag
#slashtag in light of everything going on politically right now, you guys MUST watch THE CANDIDATE (1972) starring Robert Redford. It’s the most relevant movie I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s fantastic. @jeffcannata@Devindra@davechensky@slashfilmcast
#slashtag@jeffcannata@Devindra@davechensky Vampires vs. The Bronx (Netflix) is the best horror comedy of the year. But it's also sad and angry when it needs to be. The brilliant premise, equating gentrification with vampirism, is just the beginning.
#slashtag Another vote for My Octopus Teacher. This is the most amazing nature doc I’ve ever seen, yet it’s much, much more that that and a beautiful film. Jeff, it’s the perfect antidote to The Devil All the Time!
#slashtag@jeffcannata@Devindra@davechensky
Just had my most surprising movie treat of the year watching SPONTANEOUS on vod. Katherine Langford is an absolute star leading a dark comedy about high school seniors spontaneously combusting.
Hilarious and surprisingly touching.
My Octopus Teacher on Netlix. Amazing documentary about a man befriending a wild octopus. Captures you immediately and hold it's all the way through. #slashtag
@jeffcannata wants another show after Ted Lasso. Check out Trying! The creator was adopted as a kid and wanted to explore the adoption process from a parents perspective. One of the best depictions of a relationship ever on TV, genuinely hilarious, and set in the UK! #Slashtag
#slashtag Loved "One Cut of The Dead", so fun and inventive. Great reco! Made me think of another beloved Japanese film, "After Life" - about a purgatory of sorts where counselors help people pick a favorite memory to live with for eternity and then must film it. Beautiful film!
@jeffcannata@Devindra I don’t know what the opposite of the #slashtag is to recommend that you do NOT watch something but definitely don’t watch American Murder: The Family Next Door on Netflix. This will absolute fuck you up as parents. I regret watching it for sure.

Some gems for the @slashfilmcast:
Capernaum, Jagten, Roger Dodger, Happiness, Persepolis, Housebound, Forgotten (2017), Klaus, Freaks (2018), Bad Genius, Cell 211, Ondskan, Sleep Tight, Tomboy, Perfect Strangers (2016), The Gift, Buck, Tell Me Who I Am
#slashtag If you want 80s fun, bad graphics included, try The Last Starfighter. You may never look at a video game the same again. pic.twitter.com/f3yNHuUgga
@davechensky I'm sure at this point your "What if you can enjoy your own funeral" remark has opened up #slashtag requests to watch Dick Johnson Is Dead
@jeffcannata@davechensky@Devindra Have you guys started to watch Ratched on Netflix? I was blown away by the pilot. While the story and cast are pretty good, I’d have to say I’m stunned at how great the cinematography, locations, etc. are. #slashtag
#slashtag recommendation for the @slashfilmcast guys: #LostBullet on Netflix might be my top action film of 2020 & no one is really talking about it. A low key French action film with dashes of FAST/FURIOUS & OG MAD MAX from a first time director & starring a skilled stuntman.
#slashtag recommendation. A fantastic 2020 documentary called Jasper Mall. Follows employees and customers around a once thriving mall in Alabama. It’s funny, sad at times and has a great nostalgia factor to it. Truly worth a watch.
#slashtag recommendation: a strange, memorable, complex and disturbing gem of a film: DREAMCHILD from 1985. Written by the great Dennis Potter, w/ superb performances by Ian Holm (as Lewis Carroll) and Coral Browne (as the real Alice for whom the books were written). 1/
#slashtag (cont.) I saw the film at the Public Theatre's cinema in 1985 and took friends back to see it, it was so strange, resonant, and affecting. I think you guys will enjoy digging into it. Avail on Amazon Prime (a muddy print, unfortunately.) Enjoy! 3/3
#slashtag (cont.) DREAMCHILD plays with shifts in time, memory, and reality versus fiction in ingenious ways. Characters from the Alice In Wonderland books were created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, to creepy, funny effect. 2/
@slashfilmcast Shudder also has "The Orphanage" quality top-shelf, best-of-the-best quality horror! Check out Guatemala’s La Llorona (this isn’t last year’s The Curse of La Llorona) and Mexico’s Tigers are Not Afraid #slashtag
The Unit was one of my never-miss tv series when it was on. Not sure I have ever heard anyone talk about it in reviews. It was about U.S. Army special operations unit commonly known as Delta Force and their family lives.

@slashfilmcast I'd like to recommend #Alive, a South Korean zombie film which I watched and, uhm... I thought it was... very, very good, actually... #slashtag
@slashfilmcast I would like to recommend Studio Trigger's debut film "Promare" it's an animated action adventure film the likes you have never seen before #slashtag
